Building a Greener, Equitable California

When Build It Green transitioned into a newly-founded non-profit, they faced the challenge of establishing a fresh visual identity that could support their ambitious mission of transforming California’s housing ecosystem. With only their original logo to guide us, I collaborated closely with their marketing manager to create a cohesive brand from the ground up.

Our goal was to craft a brand that could grow with Build It Green, accommodating their projected growth over the next five years. To achieve this, we focused on stunning photography, animated text, clean lines, and minimal yet striking taglines. We developed a diverse but limited color palette and selected complementary typefaces to create a unified visual language. This was integrated into wireframes, slide decks, and all branded documents, ensuring consistency across all mediums.

The rebranding extended to their new website, where structured grids, thoughtful animation, simple iconography, and impactful photographs showcased the spaces they support. The cohesive design was easy for the team to maintain, regardless of fluctuations in staffing or funding. The result? A powerful, visually engaging brand that tells the story of Build It Green’s mission for sustainability and equity in California. The client loved the end result, and the new brand has successfully carried them through their growth, resonating well with their community and stakeholders.
